About Us

"Our mission is to raise sheep on natural pastures and provide facilities to train herding dogs in the traditional Scottish highland way."

                                                                                        Clan McComb                                     Clan MacPherson

We raise St. Croix, and Dorper cross-bred sheep on our small farm in Florida.  Our sheep are bred to thrive in Florida's hot, sub-tropical climate.  They do not grow wool like the northern breeds, but are known for their superior taste as meat animals.

Our pastures are clean, free from chemicals and pesticides and we raise our sheep in a humane, natural environment.

We breed our ewes for their ability to lamb naturally out in the pasture.  The baby lambs are born each spring and raised by the ewes naturally.

In the fall, lambs are sold directly to buyers F.O.B at Shielin Farm.  We can transport lambs to you for a fee.  There simply is no comparing the taste of fresh Florida lamb to frozen imports that have been sitting in ship containers for many days or weeks.  You will be surprised at how much cheaper too.

We raise and train Border Collie herding dogs to help us work with the sheep.  Border Collies were bred for hundreds of years in the border regions between England and the Scottish Highlands to herd sheep and cattle.

We host herd dog training clinics here at Shielin farm several times each year.  The best trainers in the world teach these clinics following traditional ways handed down for generations.

Our dogs are trained first to be useful farm dogs, to help us gather and move sheep.  We sometimes enter our dogs in the occasional contest or "trial" to see how our dogs and their training are progressing.

Dog training, clinics and trials are a great way to meet other people of similar interests and to have healthy, outdoor exercise.

Watch our web site for announcements of upcomming clinics and "fun" trials and follow our Blog to see what is going on at Shielin Farm.
